Did you know…

  • In 2008, 49.1 million Americans, including 16.7 million children, lived in food insecure households.  This means that at some point throughout the year, they did not have access to sufficient food resources to live a healthy, active lifestyle. (USDA Economic Research Service http://www.ers.usda.gov/briefing/Foodsecurity/).

  • 10% of Wisconsin households were food insecure in 2008 (Wisconsin Food Security Consortium http://www.endhungerwi.org/).

  • A 2004 UW Extension survey found that at the three lowest-income elementary schools in Eau Claire (Longfellow, Lincoln, Lakeshore), 25% of families responding had experience food insecurity and 15% had experience hunger in the past year.

The mission of The Community Table is two-fold: to serve hot food and hospitality to those in need and to educate the public about the needs of our community
